Energy Saving Grant

Applications for the Energy Saving Grant will open at 8am on Wednesday 22nd May.

What is the Energy Saving Grant?

The Energy Saving Grant offers a unique opportunity for sports clubs to make energy-saving improvements and save money. Not only will clubs benefit from reduced utility bills, but they’ll also be doing their bit for the environment, too.

These grants will help clubs become more financially sustainable so that they can continue to offer affordable activities to their communities.

This is a significant step towards building a sustainable future for sports clubs in Wales.

So, if you're a club looking to save money while having a positive impact on the planet, this grant is the perfect opportunity for you!

What will we support?

The grant is for not-for-profit sports clubs and community groups looking to make energy-saving improvements to their buildings. The fund will support:

  • solar panels
  • insulation/building fabrics
  • lighting (excluding playing/training floodlights or indoor lights for playing purposes)
  • improved heating and hot water systems (not for catering-only purposes)
  • sustainable water sourcing

If you or your club have energy saving solutions or for further information on the items above and how your club can save on their energy bills, [javascript protected email address]

Who is eligible?

If you're a community sports club in Wales looking to improve the energy-efficiency at your facilities, you might be eligible for the new Energy Saving Grant from Sport Wales.

To be considered for this funding clubs must own their facility or have a minimum of a 7-year lease on the building.

Eligible clubs can apply for the grant and receive funding for their energy-efficient improvements.

How to apply?

You can apply with us online between Wednesday May 22nd, 2024 and Wednesday June 26th, 2024.

Fill out our Expression of Interest Form and we will get back to you within 2 working days with further information on making an application.

Applications may be submitted in English or Welsh and any application submitted in Welsh will be treated no less favourably than an application submitted in English.

We highly recommend that those applying for funding with us read our terms and conditions for grants

If you already have an application pending with us, you can still log into our application portal.

How is funding awarded?

The maximum award is £25,000, and successful applicants must contribute a minimum of 20% of the project total costs. The projects must be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant, and funding will be provided for projects that are able to start within the financial year ending 31 March 2025.

What is the funding process?

The Stage 1 window will remain open for six weeks, from May 22nd at 8am and must be submitted by 4pm on June 26th 2024.

A panel will prioritise those Stage 1 applications that will make the biggest impact against the fund’s criteria and if successful, will be invited to complete the Stage 2 application form.

Successful Stage 1 applicants could well be required to undertake an energy audit in Stage 2, and the survey and Stage 2 applications should be submitted by the start of October 2024. The cost of any potential Energy Audit can be included in a clubs 20% contribution.

Unsuccessful Stage 2 applicants will receive feedback on their application.
