Rupert made a goal-scoring debut for Great Britain against Australia in 2020 and will get to experience his first Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. 

Like his compatriot, Leah Wilkinson, Rupert was a teacher. He taught Geography at King’s College School in Wimbledon before entering the full-time programme with Great Britain.

What club did Rupert start hockey at?

After taking hockey more seriously at Cardiff University, Rupert’s first club was Whitchurch. He was introduced to hockey by his former school teacher, Zak Jones who capped Rupert for Wales and just now happens to be Assistant Coach for Great Britain Hockey.

One thing you didn’t know about Rupert Shipperley

His sporting career could look a lot different as Rupert grew up playing rugby before an injury forced him to focus more on his hockey. A worthwhile decision considering hockey is in the blood with his older sister Zoe also previously representing Great Britain and the nation the other side of Offa’s Dyke – England!
