Ever since a 5-year-old Matt threw off his armbands and dived into the deep end of a hotel pool on a family holiday to Tenerife, he has lived in the water. Soon after the trip, his parents started taking him to swimming lessons.

When Matt realised he had a taste for challenging himself aged just 8 years old, he joined Droitwich Dolphins which was his first swimming club.

Matt has yet to represent Wales at senior level so will be thrown straight into the deep end without his armbands again as he is selected to represent Team GB in Tokyo 2020. He won’t be in uncharted waters as his training partner and fellow Welshman, Kieran Bird, has also secured his place at this summer’s Games.
