Tokyo 2020 will be Kieran’s first taste of the Olympics. But it won’t too unfamiliar for him as his training partner and Welsh countryman, Matt Richards, has also been selected for Team GB.

Kieran Bird started swimming for Bicester Blue Fins, eventually going on to captain the club before moving to Bath to train at the British Swimming National Centre.
One thing you didn’t know about Kieran Bird
When the most decorated Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps, is a swimmer, you wouldn’t be surprised if we told you that Kieran’s inspiration for swimming comes from him. But, in fact, it was Chad Le Clos’ shock win over Phelps in the pool which gave Kieran his kick.
His inspiration paid off as Kieran produced a shock of his own when he won the 400m freestyle at the selection trials, shaving almost 5 seconds off his personal best. And, this time was also of Olympic standard.
