An additional £150,000 will now to available to support community sport clubs in Wales after significant uptake of emergency support.

It comes as the initial £400,000 for the Sport Wales Emergency Relief Fund is near to being allocated after just four weeks.

In this week’s batch of applications, 33 clubs across Wales have been approved £60,027, bringing the total amount of emergency funding up to £345,279.

Eleven applications have also been deferred as they await more information or confirmation of other Government funding.

Owen Hathway, Assistant Director at Sport Wales said: “It’s important that we’ve been able to allocate more money as we want clubs to feel they can get support if they are in financial hardship.

“The key message is that we’re available now for emergency support, and it’s the focus of our grants work

“However, clubs should also be assured that we’re developing more plans to help re-start sport and get people active again. We’ve had many applications that come under this category seeking funding for important provisions, but which are not strictly emergencies. We’ll be releasing more details shortly, and a number of those clubs who have been unsuccessful in accessing emergency funding will still be supported through this new programme.”

More information on eligibility criteria, and a Q&A, can be found on the Sport Wales website here.
