  • Those with a health condition or illness are more likely to have reported doing no activity in the past week than those with no health condition or illness (15% vs. 23%).
  • 65% of those with no longstanding health conditions or illnesses ‘walked for leisure’ in the past week, this is compared to 53% of those with a mental health condition or illness and 58% of those with a physical health condition or illness. For those with a physical health condition or illness, there has been a 7-percentage-point increase since the previous wave.
  • Those with no longstanding health conditions or illnesses are the most likely to feel confident in gym/health centres, whilst those with a physical condition or illness are the least likely to (47% [no longstanding health condition or illness] vs. 35% [mental condition or illness] vs. 33% [physical condition or illness]).
  • There has been a 7-percentage-point decrease since the previous wave for those with no longstanding health conditions or illnesses in confidence using grass pitches (used for rugby, football, cricket etc.).
  • 85% of those with no longstanding condition or illness say that they have the ability to be physically active, this is in comparison to 55% of those with a mental condition or illness, and 40% of those with a physical condition or illness. This was a 10-percentage point decrease for those with a mental condition or illness in comparison to the previous wave.
  • 66% of respondents with no longstanding condition or illness find exercise enjoyable and satisfying, compared to 44% of those with a longstanding condition or illness.
  • Respondents with no longstanding condition or illness were most likely to say that exercise is important to them compared to respondents with a longstanding condition or illness (72% vs. 60%).
  • Respondents who had a longstanding condition or illness were most likely to agree that they do not enjoy taking part in physical activity on their own, compared to those without (24% vs. 39%).
  • Those who have a mental health condition or illness were the group who were most likely to agree that they worry about leaving the home, compared to those without a longstanding health condition or illness who were least likely (15% vs. 47 vs. 31%).
  • 60% of respondents with no health conditions or illnesses take part in sport and physical activity to help manage their physical health compared to 51% of those with a health condition or illness.
  • Those with no longstanding health condition or illness were the most likely to participate in physical activity to help manage their mental health, compared to those with a physical condition or illness being the least likely (62% vs. 60% vs. 51%).
  • Respondents with no longstanding condition or illness are most likely to be able to get to local sport and physical activity facilities compared to those with a health condition or illness (61% vs. 50%)
  • The cost-of-living situation was significantly more likely to impact those with a mental condition or illness than those with a physical condition or illness or those with no longstanding health conditions or illnesses (35% vs. 58% vs. 47%).
  • Those with a mental condition or illness were also most likely to say that they have done less sport and physical activity since the cost-of-living changes (30% vs. 48% vs. 35%).
