What can I expect at my gym?

It's been a long time coming, but gyms and indoor sport facilities are set to reopen in Wales.

The Welsh Government announced that indoor facilities can re-open from 10th August.

But, when you finally get to train, what might it look like?

Torfaen Leisure Trust might be able to give you some insight. They have produced a film to show the safety measures they have implemented to ensure the safety of their visitors.

The Trust are following advice and guidelines from UK Active, Swim Wales, Public Health Wales, and the Welsh Government.

Video still: Alcohol Sanitiser

In the film they highlight the significant safety measures that have been put in place, including:

  • Social distancing measures
  • Enhanced cleaning procedures, including medical grade cleaners which kill coronavirus and fogging to distribute disinfectant through the air and to settle on surfaces
  • Hand sanitisers throughout the building
  • Limited numbers within centres (all activities to be pre-booked in advance)
  • Operating cashless centres
  • No equipment will be available to hire (visitors asked to please bring their own)
  • Lockers and changing facilities will remain closed
  • There will be no water fountains at the moment (visitors asked to please bring their own)

UK Active have released a framework for reopening the fitness and leisure sector safely which includes guidance on implementing safety features in line with Welsh Government guidelines
