The Vision for Sport in Wales guides the work we do, creating a nation where everyone can have a lifelong enjoyment in sport. We want sport to be a place where everyone can be themselves, where everyone can take part and where everyone is treated with kindness, dignity and respect.

Sport Wales in collaboration with the other home nations Sports Councils released the Guidance for Transgender Inclusion in Domestic Sport in Sept 2021 which uses these consultation findings and 10 Guiding Principles to guide and provide recommendations for partners to consider when developing their own policies in this area.

The Transgender Guidance aims to support NGBs and partners to define the best options for their activity. The Guidance encourages the consideration of offering a Universal Sport option, creating sporting opportunities available for all. This Guidance supports the inclusion of transgender people in domestic sport, recognising the previous guidance from 2013 was out of date and no longer fit for purpose.

The ultimate aim of this work is to better support our partners in understanding current needs and challenges in this area and to ensure that sports can make informed decisions in seeking to become as inclusive as possible.  Our recommendations encourage National Governing Bodies of sport to think in innovative and creative ways to ensure nobody is left out.  We want this guidance to open up, rather than close down opportunities for everyone to take part and enjoy sport.
