Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales. We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. How you'll contribute
This is an exciting opportunity in a brand-new role to make a real impact within a busy Communications and Digital team at Sport Wales. You’ll use your skills as a digital communications professional to ensure that Sport Wales’ social media channels showcase the value of sport to people’s lives and communicate key messages to our intended audiences.
With a strong understanding of different social media platforms, you’ll co-ordinate a range of content which is both engaging and relevant, using our social media communications plan to support and guide your thinking.
You will be as comfortable creating your own content as you are working with digital creative agencies, and you’ll support with measuring the effectiveness of our social media channels so that we continue to connect effectively with our audiences online.
As a committed team player, you will also be expected to input on a wide range of projects, supporting colleagues where necessary.
Who you’ll work with
You’ll be an important member of our Communications and Digital Team. As part of our content group, your ideas for shaping a story and ability to work with others will be valued.
You’ll be expected to be proactive, forming positive connections with colleagues across the organisation so that you gain a strong understanding of the various aspects of Sport Wales’ work and how our key messages can be communicated via social media.
You will need to form and develop good contacts within the wider sport sector, collaborating with our partner organisations to produce social media content which aligns with both our partners’ objectives and our own.
You will also work with external agencies and suppliers, producing project briefs and ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timelines.

With relevant qualifications and experience of working in within a communications or social media role, you’ll be looking to progress your career and you will be passionate about the value that communications activity can bring to an organisation.
We’re looking for someone with plenty of ideas who can make a strong contribution to our team. You should have experience of delivering a social media strategy on behalf of an organisation and have in-depth knowledge of how to use different social media platforms effectively.

Senior Communications Lead
Job purpose
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the Communications and Digital team. Working collaboratively across Sport Wales you will deliver a social media communications plan that showcases the value of sport and supports the delivery of our strategy.
Taking a coordinating role in the development of all social media output, you will use your skills as a digital communications professional to ensure our current social media channels remain relevant to our intended audiences. Working collaboratively with the wider content team, you will produce a content plan for social that aligns to wider content and communications plans, using the social media strategy to support and guide decision making.
You will use insight and analytics to inform future thinking around social content and take a proactive approach to working across the organisation to develop new content linked to the social media strategy. You will be as comfortable creating your own content as you are working with a digital creative agency to turn complex ideas into thought-provoking stories.
You will work with the senior communications roles to identify trends in the media and respond with thought provoking and informative content across our social channels.
You will play a key role in a busy Communications and Digital department and will be expected to input on a wide range of projects using a range of communications methods, supporting colleagues where necessary.
Main duties
To manage a social media content plan that supports the delivery of the Sport Wales strategy and attracts new audiences.
Support with the sourcing and management of tools to measure the effectiveness of our social media channels and using analytics to inform future thinking.
To work across the organisation proactively looking for new ideas for content and taking those ideas to the content group for production consideration.
To manage creative agencies on key Sport Wales projects and ensure they deliver accurate, thought-provoking social media content.
To support the delivery of communications campaigns and events, taking a lead where social media is identified as a priority.
To work with the Insight team to translate complex insight and data into stories that will encourage people to think differently about sport and Sport Wales.
To produce copy and other content for the Sport Wales website and other digital platforms as required.
To identify opportunities to collaborate with organisations and individuals through our social media channels.
To monitor and identify issues that have the potential to cause significant reputational damage and where necessary work with senior communications roles on appropriate response and action.
To work across the sector offering support and advice to communications professionals and help the sector understand the important role communications can play.
To liaise closely with colleagues across the organisation to identify and shape positive news stories for our digital channels and handle media enquiries.
To take part in an on-call rota offering communications support out of hours.
Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales), Equality, Information Security, Risk Management, Safeguarding, Financial Regulation and Health, Safety & Environment.
