DEPARTMENT AND SALARY
Department – Sport Wales Sport System Institute Services Team
Salary – Grade 4, £26,582.64 - £29,307.36 and tuition fees covered by Sport Wales to complete the Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Masters at Cardiff Metropolitan University
Working Hours – 37 hours per week (typically 2 days per week University study, 2 days per week at Sport Wales, 1 day per week at Cardiff Metropolitan)
Duration - 18 months (Any remaining time within the 18-month contract following completion of the Masters will be based at Sport Wales as a full-time employee)
Location – Sport Wales, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales. We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE
For those eligible, this is an exciting opportunity to study for a fully funded Masters in Nutrition for Sport and Exercise at Cardiff Metropolitan University whilst gaining invaluable experience by joining the Sport Wales Sport System Institute Services Team.
This Performance Nutritionist graduate scheme will provide opportunities to guide your development through supervised working at Sport Wales, Cardiff Met and TASS alongside completing a MSc in Nutrition for Sport and Exercise.
You will support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of projects related to performance nutrition (for example female athlete health, energy availability, cooking skills). You will build and maintain effective relationships to enable effective delivery of athlete, sports, and system wide projects. You will promote the role of food and nutrition to support athletic development, athlete health and wellbeing and athlete environments. You will work with relevant colleagues and partners to continually learn, evolve and develop nutrition practice.

Working with our partners, other members of the sport system Institute services team, and wider Sport Wales colleagues, you will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of projects grounded in performance nutrition principals.

This Performance Nutritionist Graduate Scheme in partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University is an opportunity for those who experience socio-economic disadvantages to obtain practical work experience and a Nutrition for Sport and Exercise masters. The successful applicant will need to meet the socio-economic criteria outlined in the application form.
You will need to have an undergraduate degree within a subject which meets Nutrition for Sport and Exercise Masters entry requirements (typically a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition, Dietetics, Biomedical Sciences, Sport and Exercise Science, Biology).
You will need to have the right to work in the UK.

MAIN DUTIES
Support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of projects related to performance nutrition which may include;
Female athlete health
Energy availability/ fuelling
Cooking & planning skills
Build and maintain effective relationships to enable effective delivery of athlete, sports, and system wide projects.
Promote the role of food and nutrition to support athlete development, athlete health and wellbeing and athlete environments.
Work with relevant colleagues and partners to continually learn, evolve and develop nutrition practice.
Work within the rules of UK and NGB professional Codes of Conduct as well as the standards and guidelines set out in the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) Code of Conduct with particular attention to the Sports Nutrition Specialist Group ‘Nutrition Supplement Position Statement’.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of work conducted with athletes, coaches, and sports using Sport Wales’s performance project portal and maintain detailed records of work done with individual athletes using PDMS.
Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales), Equality, Information Security, Risk Management, Safeguarding, Financial Regulation and Health, Safety & Environment.
Work flexibly, performing any other duties as required, where relevant to the post and appropriate to the grade.

Experience:
| An understanding of the challenges faced by developing athletes
Voluntary experience within a sport, club, team or organisation in any role

Experience of supporting young athletes and their parents
