Responding to the publication of the Sport Wales Review

Statement from Lawrence Conway, chair of Sport Wales;

"I would like to thank the review team for the work they have undertaken on producing this report and our next step will be to consider the findings in detail. I am pleased that there was overwhelming support for Sport Wales as an organisation and the desire for us to be the leading authority on sport and physical recreation in Wales.

However, like all organisations we must evolve and adapt to new challenges. The review highlights a number of important issues and we recognise that there is a desire for the organisation to play a different role in leading, challenging and supporting partners to enable a more physically active Wales.

Once we have considered the findings, we will then start a comprehensive engagement process to develop a new long term strategy for Sport Wales. As part of this we will be working closely with the Welsh Government and our sector to ensure we respond to Taking Wales Forward and highlight how the sport and recreation sector can play a leading role in creating a healthy, active and successful nation.

From enabling more people to be active to delivering success on the international stage, the sport sector in Wales has much to be proud of and I am looking forward to listening to all those we work with as we develop this strategy over the coming months."
