Location – Sport Wales National Centre, Cardiff (with regular travel across Wales)
Who we are
Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales. We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. We aim to not only improve the level of sports participation at grassroots level but also provide our aspiring athletes with the support required to compete successfully on the world stage.
We work in partnership with Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government to embed movement into everyday life and improve health, wellbeing, and educational outcomes.
The Daily Active is a key commitment within the Healthy Weight Healthy Wales strategy. It is a whole-school approach to physical activity, designed to create active learning environments that complement the Curriculum for Wales. From early 2026, a test-and-learn phase will begin, working with schools to embed this approach.

How you'll contribute
As a Daily Active Officer, you will play a central role in supporting the delivery of the Daily Active approach in schools across Wales during this test-and-learn phase.
You will:
Work directly with schools, teachers, and local partners to embed physical activity across the school day.
Provide professional learning, mentoring, and in-class support to staff.
Co-design practical, inclusive, and curriculum-aligned approaches to daily movement.
Support schools to identify barriers and develop action plans.
Capture insight, feedback, and case studies to inform the future development of the programme.
Act as a connector between schools, partners, and the Daily Active initiative, ensuring high-quality and sustainable outcomes.

Strong understanding of the Curriculum for Wales (particularly the Health & Wellbeing Area of Learning and Experience)
Experience leading health, wellbeing, or whole-school improvement projects
Excellent facilitation, coaching, and mentoring skills
Ability to build positive relationships with schools and system partners
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Commitment to inclusion, equity, and child-centred practice

Health and Education Lead Officer
Sport Wales is the national agency responsible for the development and promotion of sport at an elite and community level; and Public Health Wales is the National Public Health agency responsible for improving the health and wellbeing of the Welsh population. The Daily Active is a key commitment within the Healthy Weight Healthy Wales Strategy and is delivered through a partnership between Sport Wales and Public Health Wales.
The Daily Active is a whole-school approach to physical activity with a vision to embed movement across the school day, complementing the Curriculum for Wales and creating active learning environments that support health, wellbeing and educational outcomes. From early 2026, a test-and-learn phase of the Daily Active Offer will begin, working with schools to embed the approach.
Job Purpose
This role will play a central role in the test and learn phase of the Daily Active Offer in Wales. The successful postholder will support the delivery of the Daily Active approach in a small number of test schools ensuring partnerships with key system stakeholders are enhanced, and the quality and sustainability of physical activity provision within schools is supported. The role will also guide the development of insight as to how this model might work at a more localised level.
Working directly with schools and local partners, the postholder will support the design, delivery, and evaluation of practical approaches to increase pupil’s physical activity levels while capturing learning and insight to inform the future development of Daily Active.
You will be working closely with schools, local authorities, and community partners to integrate physical activity across the school day. You will also collaborate with Public Health Wales, Sport Wales, and Welsh Government colleagues, as well as the Welsh Network of Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools.
Main Duties
Work with schools to embed physical activity across the whole school day, within and beyond PE based on the Daily Active Framework.
Provide support for professional learning, mentoring and in-class support to teachers and support staff.
Co-design practical, inclusive, and curriculum-aligned approaches to daily activity that suit each school’s context.
Model best practice in engaging pedagogy and inclusive approaches, ensuring all pupils part of the test and learn can participate and progress.
Apply the What Matters Statements and Progression Code to align activity with the Curriculum for Wales.
Working with senior leaders of schools - support schools to identify and address barriers (e.g., staff confidence, time, space).
Facilitate collaboration between schools, local authorities, and community partners.
Work with the Welsh Network of Health and Wellbeing Promoting Schools to ensure alignment with wider whole-school health approaches.
Support schools to complete the Physical Activity Assessment Tool and provide guidance to develop and implement an action plan.
Act as a connector between the Daily Active test-and-learn phase and schools, providing insights, resources, and opportunities, gather feedback, case studies, and evidence to inform monitoring and evaluation.
Champion children’s health and wellbeing, ensuring the initiative complements priorities such as Healthy Schools, ALN, and equity of access.
Use digital technology to connect schools and partners, sharing information, resources, and learning. Contribute to a coordinated approach to risk management, safeguarding, and equality of access.
Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales), Equality, Information Security, Risk Management, Safeguarding, Financial Regulation and Health, Safety & Environment.
