Talent Cymru

Talent Cymru Grants

We support talented sportsmen and women across Wales through funding grants and, in some cases, a range of sports science and medicine support.

Talent Cymru is a National Lottery funding grant which helps sportspeople with the cost of competing.

We have a proud history at Sport Wales of supporting world-class performers – household names such as Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, Paralympic Champion Aled Sion Davies and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Natalie Powell.

And we are committed to helping the stars of the future so that Wales continues to shine on the world stage. Not only do Wales’ sporting successes raise the profile of our small nation but they inspire and motivate children and young people.

Who has Talent Cymru supported?

Talent Cymru was launched in 2007 and since then it has supported scores of talented sportspeople such as Commonwealth Games gold medallist Georgia Davies, European boxing champion Lauren Price, Paralympic javelin champion Hollie Arnold and UCI WorldTeam Team Ineos rider Luke Rowe. And the list goes on…

It supports future talent and acts as a stepping stone between SportsAid Cymru and then either UK Pathway funding or Elite Cymru.

How to apply

To apply for a Talent Cymru grant, please get in touch with your governing body.

Your governing body can explain if you are eligible as well as the criteria you are required to meet for your sport.

Athletes supported by Talent Cymru must demonstrate that they have potential to join the UK Pathway system or meet the criteria required of Elite Cymru, ideally within two or three years.

To ascertain whether you are eligible to be considered for the benefits of Talent Cymru, please get in touch with your relevant governing body.
