Who can apply for a Development Grant?

The grant scheme is open to any group or enterprise that holds an account (be it a Bank, Building Society or Credit Union account), in their organisation's name. You'll probably be one of the following:

  • Sports Club or Association
  • Youth Club
  • Community Group
  • Start-up enterprise

Please note, you will need to submit evidence to show that your organisation holds a valid account in its name. Failure to do so may delay your application from being assessed.

Who cannot apply?

  • Primary schools and associated bodies arranging activities for pupils
  • Secondary Schools that are part of the 5 x 60 programme
  • Individual members of the public

How to apply for a Development Grant?

You can apply online here. Before applying, please make sure you read our guidance notes so you know what information you will need to make your application. We also explain how to use the Sport Wales Grants Portal.


When completing your application, please make sure you attach all requested documents so that the processing of your application is not delayed.

Throughout the application form, you will find blue question marks – just click on these if you require more information or guidance about a section or question.

We have also developed bilingual 'How to' videos to help you through the application process. These can be found on the Sport Wales YouTube channel.

Sport Wales Grant – Terms and Conditions

Before you apply for a Sport Wales grant, you should read a copy of our Terms and Conditions.

High Risk Sports

Please note, there are some high risk sports where an applicant organisation needs to be affiliated to their relevant National Governing Body of Sport before applying for a grant.

When will I find out if we have been successful?

Once your application form has been submitted, we will update you on its progress via email.
