JOB PURPOSE
Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is a key strategic priority for Sport Wales and this role will lead EDI across the organisation, providing expert advice to the Board, the Executive and Leadership Teams, and externally with key stakeholders (including Welsh Government).
MAIN DUTIES
- Provide leadership across the organisation, championing equality, diversity & inclusion and ensuring it is at the heart of strategic decision making.
- Act as a subject matter expert on equality, diversity and inclusion providing advice to the Board, the Executive and Leadership Teams.
- Develop the Sport Wales Strategic Equality Plan and related policies, giving due consideration to emerging national action plans.
- Work with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee to develop a robust mechanism to assess and report on progress (qualitative and quantitative), providing assurance to the Board.
- Collaborate with all parts of the organisation to develop, coordinate & communicate key EDI work, including at a UK level on work to tackle racial inequalities and supporting transgender guidance.
- Build internal and external networks with strategic stakeholders and communities to understand needs and identify barriers currently preventing participation in sport and physical activity.
- Develop communities of practice.
- Represent Sport Wales at national and local forums and conferences including those organised by Welsh Government.
- Proactively review and improve interventions aimed at improving diversity and building an inclusive workplace.
- Work alongside the Leadership team to create a more inclusive culture across the organisation.
- Act as Lead Officer to support the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
- Write reports for presentation to Board and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee to ensure it is apprised of developments, progress and risks.
- Ensure mechanisms for Equality Impact Assessments are robust, providing support and guidance to staff as necessary.
- Lead on the assessment of organisational Equality, Diversity & Inclusion development needs, working with the HR/OD team to implement and deliver effective training plans.
- Influence key strategic partners by providing expert advice, guidance and practical experience on all aspects of equality, diversity and inclusion including governance and leadership
- Utilise insight from partners to help shape future direction in this area
- Work with key strategic partners, helping them engage key stakeholders to ensure a better understanding of need, and remove barriers currently preventing participation in sport and physical activity
- Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including Well-being of Future Generations (Wales), Equality, Welsh Language, Information Security, Risk Management, Safeguarding, Financial Regulation and Health, Safety & Environment.
- Appropriately manage a dedicated equality, diversity and inclusion budget as delegated to you in line with Sport Wales’s procedures.
- Work flexibly, performing any other duties as required, where relevant to the post and appropriate to the grade.

Experience
| Experience of working in an equality, diversity and inclusion role.
Proven experience of negotiating and influencing senior managers and staff, including Board members, to engage with the equality, diversity and inclusion agenda.
Experience of building effective, relationships (internally and externally) to drive organisational priorities
A thorough knowledge and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion legislation and regulations, and understanding how to apply this across areas of work. Experience of engaging with lived experiences to tackle barriers faced by people from diverse backgrounds
Demonstrable experience of leading work on equality, diversity and inclusion in a complex environment and at a strategic level
Track record of embedding cultural change across an organisation.
Experience of managing people and budgets. | |

Ability to connect to a wide range of audiences using excellent communication skills, enabling communication of complex/sensitive messages effectively to a wide variety of groups including individuals, stakeholder groups and the Board.
